چکیده

A long-term human robot interaction (HRI), which involves data storage of personal information, naturally raises ethical issues as a primary concern. This paper is an attempt to rise to this challenge by speculating how to best build and control a “roboethical” memory for a robot companion. We believe that memory is an essential feature in the design of a robot mind for this kind of longterm HRI. Hence, this work tries to create a link between “humanlike” memory modelling and the new Roboethics discipline. We embark on this endeavour by proposing forgetting mechanisms that would dictate what the robot companion should and should not forget in addition to suggesting a primary experiment to test the memory prototype.

War, Trauma, Memory in Selected Short Stories of Fire and Forget Edited by Roy Scranton and Matt Ghalagher and A Vital Killing by Ahmad Dehghan

This article is a comparative study of similar experiences in the American short story collection, Fire and Forget: Short Stories from the Long War edited by Roy Scranton and Matt Ghalagher and the Persian short story collection, A Vital Killing by Ahmad Dehghan as they belong to two different languages, different cultures, and different worldviews. It is an exploration of an overwhelmed psycho...

Sustained activation and executive control in the avian prefrontal cortex.

We review our studies examining neural correlates of directed forgetting and executive control in the avian prefrontal cortex. One of the fundamental forms of executive control is the ability to selectively filter information, retaining that which is critical for the current purposes and discarding that which is not. In our first experiment, we trained birds on a directed-forgetting version of ...

Are we aware of our ability to forget? Metacognitive predictions of directed forgetting.

It is often important to accurately predict not only what information we will later remember, but also what information we are likely to forget. The present research examined these abilities in the context of item-method directed forgetting, to determine whether people are aware of their strategic control of remembering and forgetting, as well as what cues are used when making metacognitive jud...

Framing effects on metacognitive monitoring and control.

Three experiments explored the contribution of framing effects on metamemory judgments. In Experiment 1, participants studied word pairs. After each presentation, they made an immediate judgment of learning (JOL), framed in terms of either remembering or forgetting. In the remember frame, participants made judgments about how likely it was that they would remember each pair on the upcoming test...

An event-related potential investigation of the processing of Remember/Forget cues and item encoding in item-method directed forgetting.

This study examined the electrophysiological correlates of the processing of the Remember/Forget cues and the successful encoding of study items in item-method directed forgetting. Subjects engaged in an old/new recognition test and an item-method directed forgetting task. Event-related potentials (ERPs) time-locked to study items and Remember/Forget cues were compared according to the subseque...
